Steve Hardman

PBS Clinician
Behaviour Support Team

Prior to my ‘human services’ career, I worked for many years as a freelancer in a variety of roles in the film and television industry. Then, as life happens, I found myself a single father and needing to get a real job with vaguely regular hours. My eclectic life experience qualified me for and sustained me in my early roles in Youth Work and homeless services. I realised, though, that if I wanted to work effectively with people I needed to be able to understand the system – so I went as a very mature aged student and got a social work degree.

I have been working as a PBS Clinician here since 2017, and have continued to apply my direct practice experience of working with people with multiple and complex needs to the systems of care around them. I understand that this idea of complexity attaches more to the care system than to the individual. I’m pretty good at cutting through all that nonsense to get people to focus on and meet the needs of the person at the centre of the work.
